  • I’m passionate about bringing people together—to communicate, learn from each other, and engage on the topics that affect them and their communities. At Urban, our events bring people together so they can share insights, understand the facts, take away what they have learned, and use that knowledge to transform people’s lives for the better.

Alana Morro is the director of events strategy and programming at the Urban Institute. She manages the team that executes all of Urban’s public events and convenings. She is also responsible for developing new convenings and programs that further Urban’s mission and strategic initiatives. Before joining Urban, Morro was a program manager at the Smithsonian Institution, where she managed student travel programs and a portfolio of multigenerational domestic and international journeys. Previously, she was the research and proposals manager and Salesforce administrator at the International Center for Journalists, where she authored proposals, developed project budgets, and executed exchange programs for journalists from around the world. Morro has a bachelor’s degree from Elon University and a master’s degree in history from the George Washington University.

Urban experts are permitted and empowered to work and affiliate with outside organizations, whether serving on boards, volunteering their time, or providing advice and counsel. And Urban welcomes visiting scholars, nonresident or affiliated fellows who work for other organizations. These outside affiliations enrich our perspectives and our learning environment. We also require all paid and unpaid experts to disclose their affiliations to Urban leadership and follow rules governing their engagement to ensure transparency for audiences and independence of experts.
