The property management arm of WinnCompanies, WinnResidential, is the sixth largest multifamily property manager and largest manager of affordable housing in the United States. Through the housing stability program it rolled out in 2020 that serves 160,000 residents, WinnResidential is using trauma-informed strategies to reduce eviction rates by half across its properties over five years. The approach they shared shifts away from the traditional dynamic of property managers enforcing rules with residents who are struggling to pay rent; instead, it leads with understanding, resources, and support. The program has trained and incentivized thousands of staff members and property managers to prevent evictions by engaging with residents, seeking community input, offering education for residents about their rights, and connecting residents who are struggling to pay rent with resources to help prevent potential eviction. This approach and transformative shift in property-management dynamics reflects the community engagement and community empowerment central to trauma-informed management principles. At the roundtable, WinnCompanies shared that their work has had demonstrated successes; as of 2021, they had helped 15,000 struggling households across their properties to protect their housing stability.
