Lead agency: New Mexico Human Services Department–Income Support Division (ISD)
Programs involved: SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, and other cash assistance programs administered by the Human Services Department, as well as child care programs administered by the Children, Youth, and Families Department.
 
Phase I
New Mexico’s diverse population and landscape, with one-third of all residents living in rural areas, present challenges to benefits access, retention, and service delivery.  Even employed families can struggle to make ends meet in the state, and state agencies felt pressure to meet the demand for work support and benefit services. The demonstration’s only southwestern state, New Mexico proposed initiatives focused on improving access within and across agencies.   New Mexico did not complete the planning year because of multiple competing priorities, including a new eligibility system implementation initiative requiring attention.
