Abstract

The government doesn't exist to reduce its own deficit! The deficit is merely the residual from all of the other spending and tax actions that are taken. Despite higher levels of confidence in public officials, as is often associated with an economic expansion, the public simultaneously expresses both distrust and alienation from government.
