Crime, justice, and safety
The US criminal legal system continues to reckon with deeply rooted patterns of racial discrimination, from excessive use of force to mass incarceration. Urban’s research and technical assistance provide insight into the efficacy of practices within the system and in communities, centering the experiences and perspectives of those most affected by the system and by crime. Policymakers, advocates, police, corrections officials, judges, prosecutors, defenders, and philanthropists all look to our work to inform solutions to curbing crime, improving safety, supporting victims and survivors, and advancing racial equity.
