Issues

The Urban Institute measures effects, compares options, tests conventional wisdom, reveals trends, and makes costs, benefits, and risks explicit. To succeed in this ambitious mission, the Institute concentrates on issues important to the country, seeking balance between short-term and long-term studies, national and local issues, and applied and theoretical work.

The issues on which researchers focus are those with the greatest potential effect on the public. From housing to the workplace, topics of central importance to the public are the centerpieces of Institute work. Issues of well-being also form principal areas of study including welfare, health and education.

Urban Institute has also formed a partnership with the Brookings Institution to create the Tax Policy Center. The Center is made up of nationally recognized experts in tax, budget, and social policy who have served at the highest levels of government. The Center provides timely, accessible analysis and facts about tax policy to policymakers, journalists, citizens, and researchers.
