This information allows hospitals to assess how their length of stay and disability outcomes for specific injuries compare to national averages, tells lawyers and expert witnesses whether a victim's broken arm is worse than average or if its outcome was atypical, gives insurers a sound basis for injury reimbursement categories, and lets program planners and evaluators estimate the cost savings from a bicycle helmet program.
