Corporate Responsibility in Workplace Issues: What Should the Standards Be, and How Should They Be Fostered? (Research Report)
Margaret Blair

This paper examines what the terms of a new "social contract" between employers and employees should be in light of recent layoffs and mergers and the trend toward outsourcing. Included are a review of theories that discuss what the social responsibilities of corporations should be; a review of the ways that responsibility standards historically have been established and enforced; and a proposed set of standards for responsibility in workplace issues. The standards serve as a guide for decisionmaking in the corporate sector and for setting public policy. The report concludes with proposals for social and financial incentives to encourage such standards.
