This study explores the support strategies used by young Latina mothers in the United States. It identifies Latino subgroups in greatest need of additional support and lists the strategies that appear to work best. The study focuses on two support strategies: (1) young mothers' living arrangements and (2) how young mothers support themselves and their children. The analysis, based on data from the 1990 Census, targets both never- and ever-married young mothers aged 15 to 19 and 20 to 24. Among the latter group, outcomes for those who became mothers as teens are compared to those who waited until at least age 20.
