Chicago Communities and Prisoner Reentry (Research Report)
Christy Visher, Jill Farrell

"Chicago Communities and Prisoner Reentry" is part of "Returning Home: Understanding the Challenges of Prisoner Reentry," a multi-state research initiative exploring ways to improve reentry outcomes for individuals, families, and communities. The report is based on pre-release surveys of 400 male prisoners in Illinois and interviews with them six months after their release; focus groups of residents in communities receiving the most ex-prisoners; and interviews with reentry service providers and state and local officials. The report discusses how former prisoners fare after their release, the community's role in the reintegration process, the impact of prisoner reentry on the community, and what types of assistance can help reduce reincarceration rates.
