Welfare Reform: The Next Act / Assessing the New Federalism

welfare_reformFor the last six years the Urban Institute's Assessing the New Federalism project has analyzed the devolution of responsibility for social programs from the federal government to the states. This work is based on interviews with program administrators, legislators, front-line social workers, advocates, and clients, two rounds of the 42,000-household National Survey of America's Families, and the tracking of changes in welfare policies in all 50 states.

Welfare Reform: The Next Act, a new Urban Institute Press book, edited by Alan Weil and Kenneth Finegold, synthesizes this work and will serve as a catalyst for a comprehensive, day-long discussion of the issues central to reauthorization of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and the Child Care and Development Block Grant.

Welfare Reform: The Next Act, edited by Alan Weil and Kenneth Finegold, is available in paperback from the Urban Institute Press (6" x 9", 272 pages, ISBN 0-87766-710-1, $26.50).
