Housing Finance Policy Center
Laurie Goodman is the Center Director for the newly formed Housing Finance Policy Center at the Urban Institute. This Center is dedicated to providing participants in the decision making process with data-driven analysis of housing finance policy issues that they can depend on for relevance, accuracy, independence, and timeliness.
Prior to joining the Urban Institute in 2013, Laurie spent 30 years as a top ranked analyst, researcher, and research department manager at a number of Wall Street firms. From late 2008- Sept, 2013, Laurie was a Senior Managing Director at Amherst Securities Group, L.P., a boutique broker dealer specializing in securitized products. She founded and headed up the RMBS Strategy effort; her group became known for its analysis of housing policy issues. From July 1993-Nov 2008, Laurie was head of Global Fixed Income Research and Manager of U.S. Securitized Products Research at UBS and predecessor firms. The UBS Securitized Products Research group, ranked #1 ranked by Institutional Investor for 11 straight years, was widely recognized for its weekly publication. Prior to that, Laurie spent 10 years in senior fixed income research positions at Citicorp, Goldman Sachs, and Merrill Lynch. She was also a mortgage portfolio manager on the buy side and a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Laurie has a BA in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a MA and PhD in Economics from Stanford University. She has published more than 200 articles in professional and academic journals and co-authored and co-edited five books. Laurie was inducted into the Fixed Income Analysts Hall of Fame in 2009.
