Pier Duncan is chief of staff and corporate secretary at the Urban Institute. She supports President Sarah Rosen Wartell and collaborates with the leadership team to manage strategic projects that enhance Urban’s visibility and impact.
Before joining Urban, Duncan spent nearly six years at the New York City Department of Education. As senior manager for internal strategic communications, she managed the development of organizational objectives and the alignment of key messaging across agency communications. She was also director of the Panel for Educational Policy—New York City’s school board—during the Bloomberg and de Blasio mayoral administrations, facilitating the approval of critical proposals, policies, and contracts.
Duncan holds a BA in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a MS in nonprofit management from the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at The New School.
