  • Jun Zhu is a nonresident fellow in the Housing Finance Policy Center at the Urban Institute. She is also a clinical associate professor of finance and director of the Finance Diversity Program at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington. Before her appointment at Indiana University, she was a principal research associate at Urban. She provided timely, rigorous, data-driven research on key housing policy issues; designed and conducted quantitative studies of the housing finance market; and managed and explored housing and mortgage databases. Before joining Urban, Zhu was a senior economist in the Office of the Chief Economist at Freddie Mac, where she conducted research on mortgage and housing issues, including default, prepayment, and home price appreciation. While at Freddie Mac, she was also a consultant to the US Department of the Treasury.

    Zhu has published more than 50 research articles covering the financial crisis and the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), mortgage refinance and modification and loss mitigation, mortgage default and prepayment, housing affordability and credit availability, first-time homebuyers, the future of homeownership, Community Reinvestment Act analysis, housing supply, homeownership and mortgages among underrepresented or low-income populations, special purpose credit program analysis and design, bank and GSE capital requirements, and Basel rules. Her research has appeared in leading real estate and finance academic and professional journals.

    Zhu holds a PhD in business administration from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and she is a real estate faculty fellow at the Kelley School of Business.
