Celeste Chatman is director of talent acquisition and planning at the Urban Institute. She drives the strategic direction of Urban’s recruitment team to build a pipeline of diverse talent.
Chatman brings more than 16 years’ experience from various industries, including higher education, banking and financial services, pharmaceutical, and technology. She joins Urban from Tyco International, where she was senior manager of talent acquisition and early career talent. Chatman held an earlier engagement at Actavis Inc., where she led the talent acquisition, university recruitment, and diversity inclusion function. She was awarded the CEO’s Operational and Process Excellence Award. As manager of campus and diversity inclusion, she played an integral part in launching the corporate-wide campus recruiting program and was the driving force in implementing a strong diversity initiative that placed Covance in the “Top 50 Employers” in Workforce Diversity magazine and the “Diversity Employers Top 100.”
Chatman began her career as a career management counselor and manager of employer relations at Montclair State University, where she developed a passion for coaching, mentoring, and employee engagement.
Chatman earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Upsala College and a master’s degree in industrial organizational psychology from Kean University. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Human Resources Management, the National Association of Colleges and Employers, and the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources.
