October 2, 2007 Seven million men and women (1 in 20 adult workers) earn low wages and live in low-income families with children. Many struggle to support their families with jobs that offer few benefits, opportunities for advancement, or links to government support programs. Meanwhile, employers are hard-pressed to balance their financial and productivity objectives in an increasingly global, competitive market. Panelists discussed what is missing from the debate about improving the income, benefits, and related work supports for low-wage workers, especially those with children.
