Prisoner Reentry in Idaho (Research Report)
Author(s): Nancy G. La Vigne, Cynthia A. Mamalian, Gillian L. Thomson, Jamie WatsonPosted to Web: December 01, 2004

This report describes the process of prisoner reentry in Idaho by examining the trends in prison admissions and releases in the state, the characteristics of the state's released prisoners, the geographic distribution of prisoners returning to communities in Idaho, and the social and economic climates of the communities that are home to the highest numbers of returning prisoners. In addition, the report describes briefly the characteristics and geographic distribution of juveniles released from state custody. Conducted in conjunction with the National Governors Association's Prisoner Reentry State Policy Academy, the report consolidates existing data on incarceration and release trends and presents a new analysis of data on Idaho prisoners released in 2003. The data used in this report were derived from several sources, including the Idaho Department of Corrections (IDOC), the Idaho State Police, the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC), the Bureau of Justice Statistics, and the U.S. Census Bureau.

A Portrait of Prisoner Reentry in Ohio (Research Report)
Author(s): Nancy G. La Vigne, Gillian L. ThomsonPosted to Web: November 20, 2003

This report describes the process of prisoner reentry* in Ohio by examining the policy context surrounding reentry in Ohio, the characteristics of inmates exiting Ohio prisons, the efforts to prepare inmates for release, the geographic distribution of prisoners returning home, and the social and economic climates of the communities that are home to some of the highest concentrations of released prisoners. This report does not attempt to evaluate a specific reentry program or empirically assess Ohio's reentry policies and practices. Rather, the report consolidates existing data on incarceration and release trends and presents a new analysis of data on Ohio prisoners released in 2001. [View the corresponding press release.]
